Is this right for me

An honest look at whether private testing fits you

Private, self-pay testing is a good option for some questions and the wrong path for others. This page is meant to help you decide, not to talk you into anything. Results are information, not a diagnosis, and a prescriber decides what is appropriate and can decline.

A good fit

Vytals may be a good fit if

  • You are curious about a specific question, for example a marker you read about or a number you would like to check.
  • You want a baseline you can revisit over time, and you understand that a single result is one snapshot, not the whole picture.
  • You are comfortable paying privately, out of pocket, because this is not billed to MSP.
  • You are willing to follow up with a clinician, so that any result can be read in the context of your history and your goals.
  • You want plain language about what a test measures and one honest reason someone might choose it, without hype.
Probably not the right path

Vytals is probably not the right path if

  • You have urgent or worrying symptoms. Please seek care now. Private testing is not the way to handle something that needs attention today, and for an emergency you should call 911.
  • You need testing that belongs in the public MSP system, for example investigation of a diagnosed condition or medically necessary follow-up. If that is your situation, we will point you toward the public system rather than have you pay for it privately.
If your symptoms are urgent, do not wait for a test. Chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or numbness, severe bleeding, fainting, a severe or sudden headache, thoughts of harming yourself, or any symptom that feels serious deserve care now. Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. For non-emergency health advice in British Columbia, you can call 811 (HealthLink BC) at any time. Vytals is not a substitute for care from your family doctor or an emergency service.
Comprehensive by choice

Knowing is better than not knowing

Vytals offers a broad menu so you can look as widely as you want at your own health. Test as much as you like, whether that is a single marker you have been wondering about or a comprehensive picture across your whole body. A clear baseline today gives you something to follow over time.

A licensed BC prescriber reviews every request and authorizes what is appropriate for you. That review is there to keep your testing safe and sound, not to hold you back. Our goal is to help you learn what you want to learn.

Choosing what fits you

Choose the body and the tests that fit you

You choose the body and the tests that reflect who you are. Some tests and some reference ranges depend on sex assigned at birth or on the hormones and organs a person currently has, because that is what the underlying biology reflects. Where that matters, we explain it briefly and plainly, so you can make an informed choice. We do not make assumptions about you, and we try to describe these details without othering anyone. If something is unclear for your situation, a prescriber or a clinician can help you sort out what makes sense.

If it sounds like a fit, start with one question

Build a panel that reflects your curiosity. Nothing is ordered automatically, and a prescriber reviews what you choose before anything moves forward.
